Therapy assessments

These are completed as the first step with all new clients, to fully assess, formulate and plan the best approach.

Autism spectrum assessments

I am able to offer a small number of autism spectrum assessments for children who are aged seven and over and who are fully verbal. This is completed in conjunction with other professionals and is an in-depth assessment including the following components:

  • Full developmental history and further parent and child observations/ interview as needed
  • A range of developmental and mental health screening questionnaires for parents, school and the child
  • Liaison with school
  • Cognitive assessment (The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-V-UK)
  • Autism Diagnostic Observational Schedule (ADOS-2) with the child. This is a standardised play-based assessment of social communication difficulties
  • An in-depth report with individual recommendations across all areas and feedback session
  • Further support sessions around identity, self-esteem and supporting social communication challenges for children and for parents will usually be offered.

Please note I do not offer Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) assessments, although will screen for and integrate strategies around this where also likely to be present.

Cognitive assessments

I am able to offer cognitive assessments based on the WISC-V (The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-V-UK). This is a gold standard measure which provides a breakdown of a child’s verbal comprehension skills, perceptual reasoning, fluid reasoning, working memory and processing speed. This can often contribute to understanding questions or concerns about a child’s cognitive profile and help us to best understand and meet their needs. Please note I do not offer dyslexia assessments or support EHCP applications or tribunals.
